Job Overview

ClearScale is looking for an experienced C/C++ Engineer to participate in a large-scale migration of IBM mainframe applications to the AWS cloud. We are hiring for the multi-year project related to migration from an IBM Mainframe to the new AWS cloud infrastructure, including legacy applications re-factoring to micro service architecture and using cloud-native AWS services and best practices. You will become part of a distributed engineering team that is responsible for preparing infrastructure, re-hosting apps and re-designing legacy code as necessary to enable a prominent client to solidify the cloud journey. This would be a mass migration led by ClearScale with hundreds of servers on the inventory list. The technologies include C, GTK, GCC and Linux.

Responsibilities

• Participate in developing migration strategy for a large-scale re-platform and re-factor of the IBM mainframe applications to AWS Cloud
• Re-platform legacy program modules onto a new platform (Linux on AWS), and re-design program code written in C if applicable
• Examine code performance and advise necessary infrastructure and design changes
• Collaborate with team lead, in-house and external development and analytical teams across multiple time zones

Qualifications

ClearScale expects successful candidate to have most of the following qualifications and skills (not necessary all have to be presented):

1. We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of a C/C++ development experience including cross platform compiling, running and debugging complex performance sensitive systems with 1M+ lines of code
2. Solid Linux expertise including network monitoring tools, TCP/HTTP protocols and troubleshooting practices
3. Solid understanding of micro service architectures, its benefits and drawbacks in AWS Cloud
4. Excellent skill set to reverse engineer complex systems and produce crystal clear specs for development team
5. Experience with IBM Mainframe products is a huge plus
6. Decent knowledge and practical experience working with SQL and noSQL databases is a big plus
7. Experience with modern development practices - Agile, tooling (Git, Jenkins, Maven/Gradle) and QA (JUnit, Integration tests)
8. Strong self-management and self-organizational skills working in a remote environment
9. English upper-intermediate (spoken and written)
10. Successful candidates should have experience with any of the following software/tools (not all required at the same time): 
    1. Message queue systems: ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS
    2. Background or practical experience with AWS services (e.g. Lambda, EKS, RDS, DocumentDB or Cognito) would be a great plus
