Web application Backend Developer Perl

The Cloud and Systems Management department at SUSE is looking for a Perl Developer to work on the Subscription Management Tool, a web-based application customers use as a proxy to access the SUSE Customer Center in order to manage their subscriptions and mirror patches.

Your responsibilities: 

• Work self-reliantly in a modern agile software engineering environment
• Design new technology concepts based on customer requirements and realize them in collaboration with the SUSE Customer Center team
• Make use of continuous integration and write automated unit and integration tests for your code.
• Troubleshooting customer issues, identify the problems and find a sustainable solution

Your skills: 

• You are fluent in Perl, its ecosystem, and best practices
• You are fluent in another modern web application language (eg. Python, Ruby)
• You have practical experience with the MySQL/MariaDB database and schema design (Ability to do performance tuning is a plus)
• You have experience designing application backends and scalable services
• You are passionate about creating excellent software which meets the goals of its users
• You understand the open source development processes and culture
• You are comfortable with code reviews, critiques, and patches - In both directions
• Familiarity with packaging software for Linux (eg. rpm, deb) is a plus

• A webpage that monitors packages in real time that are added or removed from the system
• A README.md at the top of the repository documenting your design decisions
• You are free to use any framework or libraries
• Make your application easy to run: please provide a Vagrantfile or Dockerfile
